Stephen Bolster – Founder | Water Resources Engineer

Professional Engineer (PE), Masters of Science (MS), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)

As the founder of Bolster Engineering, Stephen has over a decade of experience in the water resources engineering field. Stephen attended Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah) for both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in water resources. Over his career, he has partnered with both public and private agencies to provide hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, design recommendations, and third-party technical reviews. In addition to having a broad technical background, he has extensive experience with hazard mitigation, including various FEMA grant programs.

Stephen spent a decade living and working in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and currently resides in St. George, Utah. He thrives on being outdoors and seeing natural processes and engineering solutions in action. He loves to cook, play standup bass, mountain bike, hike, fly fish, and spend time with his family. You can often find him teaching his kids about the various dams, rivers, and flooding issues in the area. He is excited to assist communities overcome flooding and drainage concerns in Utah, Texas, and throughout the nation.

Heidi Bolster – GIS Analyst | Technical and Support Administrator

  • Heidi attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership with an emphasis on Recreation Therapy, along with a Certificate in Psychology and Gerontology. After working in Recreation Therapy, Heidi spent the next decade at home with her five kids while they were young. She is excited to be part of Bolster Engineering in this next chapter of her life. She trained in GIS in 2023 and supports Bolster Engineering with her knowledge of map analysis and creation. Heidi brings a fresh perspective to Bolster Engineering with her experiences over the last decade that have helped her become a resilient, empathetic, and creative member of the team. She looks forward to more training and responsibilities in the future.

Dan Jones– Senior Water Resources Engineer

Professional Engineer (PE), Masters of Science (MS), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)

Dan has three professional passions: math, science, and people. He gets to interact with all three as he solves data, drainage, and floodplain issues for his clients. He specializes in data analysis, planning, and modeling to solve drainage & floodplain issues proficiently for his clients. He dedicates his work to efficiency, thoroughness, creative solutions, and technical excellence.  He has modeled designs of storm water and sanitary sewer systems and analyzed dozens of drainage systems. Dan is a recognized expert in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and has helped many Utah municipalities identify problems in their drainage systems and design solutions to fix them. He looks forward to serving you with your next drainage engineering need!

Dan lives with his young family in Salt Lake City, UT, where he enjoys hiking in the mountains with his kids, telling dad jokes, playing board games, and getting lost in a good book. Passionate about service, he helped build a schoolhouse in Makumba, Malawi, creating a learning space for 90 children, and he volunteers weekly at his local church. Whether sharpening his strategy over a chessboard or tackling home improvement projects with his wife, Dan believes his love for learning and helping others will rub off on his kids eventually.
